Home Fire Safety Checks

Through our service level agreement with the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, we provide free Home Fire Safety Checks to local residents who are deemed to be vulnerable and/or at high risk. This service is delivered by a team of experienced volunteers who visit your home to provide home fire safety advice and supply and install a range of equipment (smoke alarm, extension lead, carbon monoxide alarms, stove alarms and fire retardant clothing/bedding etc.) free of charge. The checks are the cornerstone of the proactive role that the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is adopting in its drive to reduce the deaths and injuries that are caused by accidental fires.

Our aim is to make this service as accessible as possible to residents from across the whole county borough of Neath Port Talbot. This year, we have completed over 150 Home Fire Safety Checks and provided free equipment to the value of £14,377. Our fantastic volunteer team have dedicated 275 hours which has an economical value of £3,655.

“Over the last year, partnership working with Age Connects Neath Port Talbot has gone from strength to strength and we have seen many positive outcomes. The concept is part of our Annual Improvement Plan objective for 2016-17 which is to deliver a more holistic home safety product to those most at risk in our communities and expanding our work with partners, so that we can also promote their advice and interventions to further improve the safety and health of our communities. As part of our approach, we were able to offer the extensive services of Age Connects Neath Port Talbot to our target group of vulnerable adults and help reduce health inequalities and support/improve their lifestyle”.
